Punjab Govt Offers Rs. 100,000 for Converting Petrol Bikes to Electric – Green Credit Program

Updated on:

The Punjab government has introduced a new initiative to promote a cleaner and greener environment. Under the Green Credit Program 2025, citizens who convert their petrol motorcycles into electric bikes (EVs) will receive a cash reward of Rs. 100,000. The announcement was made by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb, who explained that this plan is part of a broader strategy to reduce air pollution and tackle smog across the province.

What is the Green Credit Program?

The Green Credit Program is a unique idea that connects financial rewards with eco-friendly actions. Residents of Punjab can earn “green credits” by participating in activities that help protect the environment. Some of the key steps include:

  • Converting petrol bikes into electric vehicles
  • Planting trees in urban and rural areas
  • Replacing traditional bulbs with LED energy-saving lights

Anyone living in Punjab can apply for the program through the official online portal.

Tree Plantation Drive – “Plant for Pakistan”

Alongside promoting electric bikes, the government has launched a large-scale tree plantation campaign. This includes:

  • Citizens in Lahore can dial 1399 to get free saplings delivered to their homes.
  • Around 300,000 trees will be planted along the Lahore Ring Road.
  • A digital tree-tracking system, based on Australian technology, will monitor the growth of planted trees.
  • Forest lands illegally occupied are being recovered and returned to the government.
  • A special fire control unit has been formed with the help of the Bank of Punjab to protect forests.

Fighting Smog and Air Pollution

Improving Lahore’s air quality is one of the government’s top priorities. To achieve this:

  • Seven air quality monitoring stations have been set up in the city.
  • Smog control has been made a permanent part of the environmental policy.
  • Citizens are encouraged to join plantation campaigns and adopt eco-friendly habits.

Marriyum Aurangzeb stressed that:
“Every citizen has a role in protecting the environment. Planting more trees today means securing a healthier Punjab for tomorrow.”
