New Oil and Gas Discoveries in Pakistan 2025 – Strengthening Energy Independence

Published on:

Pakistan’s energy sector has received a big boost in 2025 with new oil and gas discoveries in Sindh and Punjab. These findings are important for reducing reliance on imported fuel and increasing local energy production.

Key Discoveries Across Pakistan

1. Ghotki, Sindh – MPCL Find
In Ghotki, Sindh, Mari Petroleum Company Limited (MPCL) reported a major discovery at the Mari Ghazij CFB-1 well. The well produced about 305 barrels of oil and 3 million cubic feet of gas per day during testing. This adds significantly to Pakistan’s domestic energy supply and strengthens MPCL’s role as a leading energy producer.

2. Tando Allah Yar, Sindh – OGDCL Discovery
The Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) discovered oil at the Chakar-1 well in Tando Allah Yar, Sindh. It produced roughly 275 barrels of oil per day, with further potential found in the Lower Ranikot Formation. This discovery opens new exploration opportunities in the region.

3. Potwar Region, Punjab – PPL’s Major Breakthrough
In Punjab’s Potwar region, Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL) made a significant find at the Dhok Sultan-03 well. The well initially produced 1,469 barrels of oil and 2.56 million cubic feet of gas per day, which later increased to 2,113 barrels of oil and 4.13 million cubic feet of gas per day. This is considered one of the deepest oil discoveries in fractured carbonate formations in the area.

4. Sujawal, Sindh – Jhamp East X-1 Discovery
PPL also discovered oil and gas at Jhamp East X-1 well in Sujawal’s Shah Bandar block. The well produces around 10 million cubic feet of natural gas per day and 150 barrels of light oil. Gas from this well is already being supplied through Sui Southern Gas Company, improving stability in Pakistan’s gas network.

Government Support and Future Plans

Apart from these onshore discoveries, offshore surveys have revealed more oil and gas reserves along Pakistan’s coasts.
The government is encouraging foreign and local investment by offering better pricing for oil and gas production and incentives for exploring challenging geological areas.

Conclusion

The new oil and gas discoveries in 2025 are a major achievement for Pakistan’s energy sector. They not only help the country move toward energy independence but also create jobs, attract investment, and strengthen the economy.

With ongoing exploration in Sindh, Punjab, and offshore areas, Pakistan is moving closer to its goal of self-reliance in energy, promising a brighter and more stable future for the nation.
