Islamabad-Murree Glass Train: New Route from Faizabad to Airport Proposed

Published on:

The Glass Train project from Islamabad to Murree is moving forward, with a new proposal to extend the route all the way to Islamabad International Airport. This idea was discussed in recent meetings between the Punjab government, NESPAK, and the Capital Development Authority (CDA), as work on the next phase of the project continues at a fast pace.

Planned Route of the Glass Train

According to the plan, the Glass Train will run from Lake View Park and Bara Kahu Bypass to Murree. Currently, the train will travel on a 40-kilometer elevated track from Bara Kahu Bypass to Pindi Point in Murree. This route aims to provide smooth, fast, and modern transportation for residents and tourists traveling between Islamabad and Murree.

Extension to the Airport

In meetings led by Punjab Chief Minister’s advisor Shahid Ashraf Tarrar, CDA Chairman Mohammad Ali Randhawa, and board members, officials proposed linking the Murree line to Islamabad Airport. Both sides agreed that NESPAK would assist CDA in completing a pre-feasibility study, and the initial results have already been shared.

Advisors suggested using the existing Metro track between Faizabad and the Airport for the elevated monorail. Additionally, a 13-kilometer new track from Faizabad to Bara Kahu Bypass is recommended, which will connect the main station with Lake View Park and the bypass.

Future Expansion Plans

Officials are also considering extending the route from Rawat to Faizabad alongside the expressway, allowing the monorail to connect with the main Faizabad line. A CDA board member confirmed these discussions and stated that the authority will now move toward a full feasibility study based on NESPAK’s review.

Government Support and Timeline

Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has repeatedly emphasized the importance of launching the Glass Train soon. She has assured Murree residents that construction work will begin promptly, making travel faster, safer, and more convenient.

The Glass Train project is expected to provide a modern, high-speed, and comfortable transport option, while boosting tourism and improving travel connections between Islamabad and Murree.
