The Government of Punjab, led by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, has launched a modern transport initiative called the E-Taxi Scheme 2025. This project will provide 1,100 electric taxis on easy installments without interest, giving drivers and small businesses an affordable way to join the transport sector. The scheme officially begins in August 2025 and is expected to bring big changes in both employment and environmental protection.
Purpose of the Scheme
The E-Taxi Scheme has three main objectives:
- Modern Transport – Introduce advanced and eco-friendly vehicles to Punjab’s transport system.
- Employment Creation – Provide new job opportunities for drivers, especially youth and women.
- Environmental Care – Reduce air pollution in major cities by promoting electric vehicles.
This program is designed to benefit not only the drivers but also the people who will enjoy safer, cleaner, and more reliable transport services.
Key Features of E-Taxi Scheme 2025
The scheme comes with several important features:
- 1,100 E-Taxis in First Phase – Out of these, 1,000 will go to fleet owners and 100 to individual drivers.
- Special Quota for Women – 30 taxis are reserved for women drivers, ensuring their active role in the transport sector.
- Government Support – The Punjab Government will pay for markup, registration fees, and token tax, so drivers only need to manage the installments.
- Electric Vehicles – The taxis will include sedans and hatchbacks, each with a driving range of around 300 km per charge.
- Safe and Clean Travel – By running on electricity, these vehicles will reduce fuel expenses and improve urban air quality.
How to Apply
Applying for the scheme is simple and digital. Interested individuals and companies can apply through the online portal managed by the Punjab IT Board (PITB). Applicants will need to provide their CNIC, driving license, financial details, and other required documents.
It is advised to prepare documents in advance, so that once the portal opens, applicants can register without delays.
Charging Infrastructure
To support the E-Taxi Scheme, the government is also investing in solar charging stations and service centers. In the first phase, charging points will be set up in Lahore, followed by expansion into other cities of Punjab. This will make it easier for drivers to keep their taxis fully charged and ready for service.
Final Thoughts
The CM Punjab E-Taxi Scheme 2025 is more than just a car distribution project. It represents a new vision for modern transport, combining job creation, women’s empowerment, and clean energy solutions. Drivers will save money on fuel, passengers will enjoy better travel, and cities will have reduced pollution.
