Hundreds Arrested in Punjab for Traffic Violations

On November 27, 2025, the Punjab Traffic Police carried out a major crackdown across the province. The police enforced the uniform traffic law strictly, aiming to reduce traffic violations and improve road safety. On that day alone, authorities issued 40,000 challans across Punjab.

Helmet Violations

One of the most common violations was not wearing helmets. The police recorded:

  • 5,034 helmet violations
  • Fines collected: Rs. 9,896,000
  • Vehicles impounded: 1,612
  • FIRs registered: 2
  • Arrests: 2

One-Way Violations

Strict action was taken against vehicles going the wrong way on one-way streets:

  • Challans issued: 1,870
  • Fines collected: Rs. 2,912,000
  • Vehicles impounded: 595
  • FIRs registered: 163
  • People arrested: 153

Passenger Safety Violations

Passengers riding on bus rooftops or hanging behind vehicles were fined as well:

Many drivers were found driving without a license:

Parking Violations and Social Issues

  • Unregulated parking violations: 718 challans, 395 vehicles impounded, 17 FIRs, 17 arrests
  • Action against beggars, drug addicts, and vagrants: 10 impoundments, 10 FIRs, 10 arrests (no fines)
  • Other violations: 14,630 challans
