Karachi is set to experience a major upgrade in its public transport system, as the Sindh government has announced that double-decker buses and a new fleet of electric buses (EV buses) will start operating in the city next week. This move aims to transform Karachi’s travel experience with modern, eco-friendly, and more comfortable transport options for daily commuters.
A high-level meeting was held under the chairmanship of Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. The session was attended by Transport Secretary Asad Zaman, SMTMA Managing Director Kanwal Nizam Bhutto, TransKarachi CEO Fawad Ghaffar Soomro, and Yellow Line BRT PD Zameer Abbasi. Officials reviewed progress on the Yellow Line and Red Line BRT projects and discussed upcoming developments.
New Buses and Routes Arriving Soon
Transport authorities confirmed that the double-decker buses and EV buses are scheduled to arrive in Karachi next week. After their arrival, new routes will be launched across the city as part of the expanding People’s Bus Service network. The government also plans to extend this service to more districts of Sindh in the coming months.
EV Taxi Service Coming in December
During the meeting, officials also briefed the minister about the upcoming Electric Taxi Service, which the government aims to launch by December. Sharjeel Memon stated that the province will add 500 more buses to the fleet during the current financial year, significantly improving transport accessibility for citizens.
Instructions for New Routes and Women’s Scooty Program
The minister instructed transport officials to complete all operational preparations for the new routes without delay. He also approved the launch of a Scooty Training Program for women and female students, which will begin in all divisional headquarters of Sindh. The initiative aims to empower women with safer and more independent mobility options.
Development Work on the Yellow Line BRT Accelerated
Authorities were also directed to speed up infrastructure development for the Yellow Line BRT, including the construction of depots. Sharjeel Memon added that the second phase of the Taj Haider Bridge project will start soon, while traffic on both sides of the bridge has already been restored.

According to the Sindh government, these efforts mark the beginning of a new chapter in Karachi’s transport landscape. With modern buses, EV taxis, improved routes, and better infrastructure, the city is set to witness major improvements in safety, comfort, and environmental sustainability.
