The National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) is planning to introduce self-service kiosks throughout Pakistan. These machines will make it easier for citizens to renew or re-issue their Computerized National Identity Cards (CNICs) without waiting in long lines.
According to NADRA spokesperson Shabahat Ali, this initiative aims to reduce crowding and waiting times at NADRA offices while giving people a more convenient way to access services. He shared these updates during Data Fest 2025 at the Pak-China Friendship Centre.
How the Kiosks Will Work
The new kiosks will be high-tech and user-friendly. Citizens will be able to:
- Take their own photographs
- Capture thumb impressions
- Complete CNIC renewal or re-issuance without staff assistance
This system allows people to finish their CNIC procedures quickly and independently.
NADRA’s Outreach Efforts
Shabahat Ali also highlighted NADRA’s ongoing efforts to include everyone in the national database. Currently, over 85% of Pakistan’s population is registered, and NADRA is actively working to reach the remaining citizens.
To support people living in remote or hard-to-reach areas, NADRA operates 256 mobile registration vans across the country. These vans provide CNIC services to residents who cannot easily access local offices.
Why This Matters
- Saves Time: Citizens no longer have to wait in long queues for CNIC services.
- User-Friendly: The kiosks are simple to use, even without staff assistance.
- Improved Access: Mobile vans and kiosks ensure that people in rural or remote areas can get CNICs.
- Efficient System: Self-service machines reduce the workload at NADRA centres, helping staff focus on other services.
Conclusion
NADRA’s plan to roll out self-service kiosks is a step towards making CNIC renewal and re-issuance faster, simpler, and more accessible for all Pakistanis. Combined with mobile registration vans and the authority’s nationwide outreach, this move promises to make identity services easier and more convenient for citizens across the country.
