State Bank of Pakistan to Launch New Currency Notes in 2025 – Latest Design & Security Features

September 2025 – Recently, many social media posts and unverified websites claimed that the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) is introducing new currency notes in 2025 with advanced designs and security features. Some even shared fake pictures of redesigned notes, including polymer Rs. 100 notes.

The SBP has now officially denied these rumors and confirmed that no new notes are being launched in 2025. The current notes – Rs. 10, 20, 50, 100, 500, 1,000, and 5,000 – will continue to be used as legal tender.

Official SBP Statement

On August 15, 2025, SBP clarified on its official website that:

  • No proposal for a new series of notes is under consideration.
  • Claims about polymer notes or new designs are false.
  • Current notes (introduced between 2005–2008) will remain in circulation.
  • Fake news about a “cabinet approval” or “nationwide rollout in July 2025” is baseless.

Fake News & Viral Claims

Here are the false claims spreading online and what SBP says about them:

  • New Designs – Posts showed notes with landmarks like Badshahi Mosque, K2, and Faisal Mosque. ❌ Fake.
  • Polymer Notes – Rumors about plastic notes with UV lights and holograms. ❌ No such plan.
  • Art Competition 2024 – Misreported as a redesign contest. In reality, it was only for thematic ideas.
  • High Auction Prices – False claims that low-serial notes would sell for Rs. 50,000–100,000.
  • July 2025 Rollout – Entirely fabricated, no rollout is happening.

Why People Believed It

  • A viral TikTok video of a fake Rs. 1,000 note got over 10 million views.
  • Ongoing concerns about counterfeit currency (worth billions yearly) made people think new notes were coming.
  • Unverified blogs and WhatsApp forwards spread the rumors quickly.

How to Stay Safe from Scams

If you come across such claims, here’s what to do:

  1. Verify Information – Always check SBP’s official site or @StateBank_Pak on social media.
  2. Don’t Pre-Order Notes – Anyone offering to sell or reserve new notes is a scammer.
  3. Check Security Features – Use SBP’s awareness material to verify current notes.
  4. Report Fake News – Call SBP helpline 111-727-273 or report false content online.

Current Currency Status

  • All denominations from Rs. 10 to Rs. 5,000 remain valid.
  • SBP is not replacing them in 2025.
  • Recently, SBP released a Rs. 75 commemorative coin for Independence Day – showing its focus is on small commemorative issues, not new notes.

What’s Next?

For now, the State Bank is focusing on:

  • Awareness campaigns against counterfeit money.
  • Better training for banks to detect fake notes.
  • Digital transactions to reduce cash dependency.

So, don’t believe viral rumors – your current currency is safe and valid.
